Biography

Tamer is an investment manager at KAUST’s Innovation Fund responsible for screening and evaluating investment proposals and managing a portfolio of seven startups in different sectors such as energy, renewables, power & water desalination, new materials & nanotechnology and information communication technology.

Before working for KAUST, Tamer served as an advisor to the CEO of Qatar Development Bank, a governmental financial entity tasked to develop long-term socio-economic benefits in Qatar.  During his time there, he was tasked to lead the re-structuring of the bank portfolio over a five-year interval in order to contribute towards diversification of the Qatari economy away from hydrocarbons.  Mr. Osman was also previously responsible for the structuring and implementation of one of the first SME MENA regional initiatives, sponsored by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser through SILATECH. This initiative was considered the first of its kind in the region and promoted employment creation for Arab youth.

Previously, Mr. Osman was a Senior Principal Investment Officer in one of the leading Islamic investment banks in the Middle East based in Bahrain. He also previously worked with Bank of America & Merrill Lynch and has a wealth of experience in government bond trading, hedge management, fixed income derivatives, equity derivatives, and emerging markets trading.  Tamer holds a B.S. from University of North Carolina, and an MBA from Wingate University in Finance. He is fluent in English, Arabic and Spanish.
